Hey Friends!!
Have you ever looked around your home and thought, Where did all this stuff even come from?! 🤯
Or maybe you’ve tried to declutter but got stuck because:✅ You don’t know where to start.✅ You feel guilty getting rid of perfectly good things.✅ You’re scared you’ll regret it later.
If so, you are NOT alone.
Clutter Isn’t Just “Stuff”… It’s Stress, Overwhelm, and Mental Load
Most people think clutter is just an eyesore, but did you know it actually affects your:
🧠 Mental health – Clutter raises cortisol (the stress hormone), making you feel overwhelmed—even when you’re not actively dealing with the mess.
😩 Decision-making – Your brain sees clutter as "unfinished business," making you feel mentally drained just by looking at it.
⏳ Time & energy – Ever wasted 20 minutes looking for something you know you own but can’t find? That’s clutter at work, stealing your time.
So what’s the solution? Intentional decluttering. 🏡✨
Decluttering isn’t just about getting rid of stuff—it’s a mindset shift.
📖 Bal Tashchis – Keeping things "just because" isn’t always the right choice. If an item is sitting in a drawer, never being used, that’s also wasteful! Giving it to someone who will use it is a much better way to honor it.
The “Just in Case” Myth 🤔
One of the biggest reasons we hold onto clutter is fear. We think:
"But what if I need it someday?"
Here’s the truth:➡️ If you haven’t needed it in the last year, chances are you won’t need it next year either.➡️ Most “just in case” items can be replaced for less than the cost of storing them for years.➡️ Ask yourself: Would I buy this again today? If not, it’s probably time to let it go!
The “Sunk Cost” Trap 💸
We feel guilty letting go of things we spent money on. But keeping them won’t bring the money back.
Instead of thinking: I spent money on this… try asking: Does keeping this add value to my life today?
💡 Mindset shift: "I already paid for it with my money—why am I still paying for it with my peace of mind?"
How Clutter Affects Your Family 👨👩👧👦
Even if you think you’re the only one who notices the clutter, research shows it affects everyone:
👶 Kids struggle to focus and play independently in cluttered spaces. Too much stuff makes their brains work overtime, leading to restlessness.
🧔 Husbands feel the stress too. Even if they don’t say anything, a cluttered home creates an underlying sense of chaos. A lighter, calmer home benefits everyone!
Pesach-Specific Decluttering Advice ✨🍷
Decluttering before Pesach isn’t just about making space—it makes cleaning so much easier.
✔️ Declutter BEFORE you clean. Why scrub and organize things you don’t even need? The less stuff you have, the easier (and faster!) Pesach prep will be!
✔️ Focus on high-impact areas. The kitchen and pantry are key, but also think about what makes Erev Pesach stressful—piles of laundry, cluttered surfaces, overflowing toy bins.
