Ever feel like your day is one big game of whack-a-mole? 😵💫
You start working, but then the kids need something. You start cleaning, but then you remember that one email you forgot to send. You sit down to answer texts, and suddenly, you're deep in some random WhatsApp group chat about who’s bringing what to the next simcha. (How did this even happen?!)
This is why time blocking is a lifesaver.
It’s NOT about planning your day down to the minute. (We’re not robots! 🤖) It’s about breaking your day into big, focused chunks of time—where you know exactly what you’re supposed to be doing.
Work gets a block. Housework gets a block. Kids get a block. And during that time? THAT’S what you focus on.

Why Time Blocking Works (Even If You’re the Busiest Person Alive)
💡 It stops the constant mental juggling.Instead of trying to do everything at once (and getting nothing done), you’re only focused on one type of task at a time.
💡 You get more done in less time.Jumping between a million things actually wastes time. (Ever start a task, get interrupted, and then spend 10 minutes just trying to remember what you were doing? Yeah. That’s why.)
💡 Less guilt, less stress. When it’s “work time,” you focus on work without feeling bad about the dishes in the sink. When it’s “family time,” you’re with your kids without your brain screaming at you about work.
How to Start Time Blocking (Without Overcomplicating It)
Step 1: Figure Out Your Main Categories
Think big. What are the major parts of your day? Most people have:
Work (Job, business, anything that requires real focus)
Family/Kids (Homework, meal times, general chaos)
Home (Cleaning, errands, Pesach panic 😆)
Personal (Learning, self-care, or just breathing)
Step 2: Assign General Time Blocks
You’re not mapping out every second—just giving each category a solid chunk of time.
🚀 Example of a Time-Blocked Day:
🕘 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM → Work Block
Focus ONLY on work. No laundry. No dishes. No “quick phone calls” that turn into an hour-long shmooze.
🕛 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM → Home & Errands Block
This is when you do the house stuff—cleaning, errands, making calls.
🕑 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM → Kids & Family Block
School pickup, homework, dinner—this time is for them. No guilt about work. Work had its turn.
🕔 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM → Dinner & Evening Routine
Get everyone fed, cleaned up, and settled for the night.
🕖 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM → Personal or Catch-Up Block
This is where you fit in you time, learning, or anything else you need to catch up on.
Pro Tips for Making Time Blocking Actually Work
✔ Stick to the block. If it’s “work time,” don’t sneak in “just one load of laundry.” That’s how your whole block disappears.
✔ Set a start & end time. When you know a task has a set time to happen, you won’t waste mental energy thinking about it all day.
✔ Expect interruptions. Kids will need you. Life will happen. It’s fine! Just go back to your block when you can.
✔ Keep it simple.
No fancy apps or complicated schedules. A planner like the Frum Minimalism Planner works just fine. 😉
The Bottom Line
Time blocking = decluttering your schedule.
Instead of everything getting mixed together, each part of your life gets its own time to shine. ✨
Try it. Your brain will thank you. 😉
