As you may know, I enjoy reading. Sometimes, I share what I've read with you here...

A book I recently read is Buy Back Your Time by Dan Martell. As I was flipping through it before diving in, I got really excited when I saw that he quoted one of my favorite books ever, Make Your Bed by Admiral William McRaven.

In my course, I emphasize the importance of making your bed every morning, a principle I grew up with and continue to practice. Seeing Martell reference this concept, I knew I was going to enjoy his book.

The Power of Making Your Bed

Admiral McRaven speaks about the significance of making your bed as soon as you wake up. This simple act helps you accomplish a task right away, setting a positive tone for the rest of your day. Even if your day doesn’t go as planned, you come home to a nicely made bed, giving you a sense of order and calm.

Dan Martell’s appreciation for this concept shows his understanding of how small habits can lead to incredible changes. This made me eager to explore his ideas further.

Creating Your Own Future with Visualization

One of the key themes in Buy Back Your Time is the importance of creating your own future through visualization. Martell encourages readers to imagine and define what they want their future to look like. This concept aligns perfectly with a principle I teach in my course: visualizing the kind of home and space you want once you declutter.

The Importance of a Detailed Vision

Having a detailed vision of your future is crucial. When you can clearly see what you want, it becomes easier to take actionable steps towards achieving it. This idea is supported by the Torah: בְּאֵין חָזוֹן, יִפָּרַע עָם"Where there is no vision, the people perish" in English.

I actually give a workshop on Goal setting and vision boards, but here is a quick rundown on how to do it your self:

Action Steps for Visualization

  1. Create a Vision Board: Gather pictures that represent the home and lifestyle you want. This could include images of organized spaces, happy family moments, or anything that inspires you.

  2. Write Down Your Goals: Be specific about what you want to achieve. For example, "I want a clutter-free living room where my family can relax and spend time together."

  3. Reflect Daily: Spend a few minutes each day looking at your vision board and reminding yourself of your goals. This keeps your vision fresh in your mind and motivates you to take steps towards it.

Buying Back Your Time

Martell’s book emphasizes the importance of reclaiming your time by delegating tasks that don’t align with your core values or goals. Here are some strategies to help you buy back your time:

  1. Delegate Household Chores: Consider hiring help for cleaning or organizing. This frees up your time for activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.

  2. Simplify Your Schedule: Identify tasks that can be eliminated or streamlined. Focus on what truly matters to you and your family.

  3. Use Technology Wisely: While I advocate for a digital detox, smart use of technology can help automate mundane tasks, giving you more time for what you love.

Applying These Concepts as a Mom

  1. Morning Routine: Start your day by making your bed and setting a positive tone.

  2. Family Involvement: Encourage your family to participate in decluttering and organizing. Share your vision with them and work together towards creating a harmonious home.

  3. Self-Care: Use the time you save from delegating tasks to focus on self-care. Whether it’s reading, exercising, or spending quality time with the people you love, prioritize activities that nourish your soul.

Final Thoughts

Buy Back Your Time by Dan Martell offers valuable insights into creating a life you love by reclaiming your time and visualizing your future. This can help you establish positive habits and a clear vision for your home and life.

Remember, it’s not just about reading these books but applying the ideas to make a real difference.

Love, Ellie
