Decluttering Can Save You Thousands! 💰 💵 💰

Writer: Ellie AzeradEllie Azerad

Let’s talk about something that might surprise you: Decluttering can actually save you a significant amount of money.

And I’m not just talking about a few bucks here and there—I’m talking about thousands. (See this blog post I wrote breaking down how 2 of my students saved tens of thousands in jaut one year!)

Here’s the thing—when your home is full of clutter, you often end up buying things you already own because you can’t find them. It’s easy to lose track of extra school supplies, kitchen tools, or even clothes, and before you know it, you’re spending more on duplicates. The problem is, clutter leads to unnecessary spending, and it adds up fast.

But there’s more to it. Decluttering helps reduce ongoing expenses like cleaning services. In fact, one of my clients completely eliminated her cleaning help after decluttering and saved over $12,000 a year!

She’s not alone.

In my course I give called the Minimalist Makeover, I teach women how to minimize their surroundings and simplify their lives.

At the end of one series, I asked my students to tally up their savings, and together, they saved a staggering $67,000—just by cutting down on cleaning help alone!

Think about that for a second. That’s thousands of dollars back in their pockets simply by decluttering and organizing their homes!

Let’s break down a few more ways decluttering can help you save:

  1. Fewer duplicate purchases: Once everything has a place, you stop buying extra stuff because you can easily find what you need. Studies show that on average, people spend about $1,100 a year on items they already own but can’t locate.

  2. Lower cleaning costs: The less clutter you have, the faster and easier it is to clean your home, meaning you can cut down on professional cleaning services—or, in some cases, eliminate them completely.

  3. Reduced stress leads to better decisions: A clutter-free home brings mental clarity, which translates into smarter financial choices. When your space feels clear and calm, you’re less likely to make impulse purchases.

Here’s what I want you to try:

Pick one cluttered space in your home—a closet, pantry, or even just a junk drawer. Set a timer for 15 minutes and focus on decluttering. Get rid of what you don’t need and only keep what you love or use regularly. Once you’ve done that, you’ll start to see just how much extra stuff you were buying unnecessarily—and more importantly, how much money you can save.

Decluttering isn’t just about creating a tidy home. It’s a smart financial move that can lead to real savings. Whether it’s cutting back on cleaning help, reducing wasteful spending, or simply making better decisions, a clutter-free home can help you keep more money in your wallet!

Enjoy your Savings!

Love, Ellie
