Seriously, Get Off the Phone: A Gentle, Honest Wake-Up Call

📱 Why This Matters
Hey Frum Minimalists💕
I want to share something powerful—but before I do, please know: I’m not here to preach. I’m not judging, and I’m definitely not perfect. I’m just a regular frum mom trying to live with more intention, and this one shift has made a huge difference for me and for so many women I’ve worked with.
Let’s talk about something that completely resets me every time I do it. It clears my head, calms my home, and reconnects me to what matters most.
It’s called a Phone and Technology Detox.
And no—it’s not scary. It’s actually incredible.
If you’ve ever felt like your phone has taken over your time, your energy, your headspace, or your motherhood—you are not alone. So many women have told me this was one of the most freeing things they ever tried.
You might’ve heard me call it phone slavery—and that’s really what it feels like sometimes. We think we’re using our phones, but the truth? They’re using us.
And it’s not our fault. These devices were designed to be addictive.
📊 Did You Know…
The average person taps or swipes their phone 2,617 times a day.
Just having your phone in the room (even face-down!) lowers memory, focus, and connection.
Phones trigger dopamine hits—the same chemical released by sugar, gambling, and drugs.
Mothers interrupted by phone use are more likely to feel guilt, yell, and burn out.
Kids whose parents are glued to phones often act out and feel emotionally ignored.
🕊 The Spiritual Side
This isn’t just distraction. As I share in my coursesand books, It’s a kind of avodah zarah.
Our phones have become the thing we check in with more than anything else. We reach for them before we daven. Before we say good morning. Before we connect with our children or check in with our own souls.
That glowing screen has taken a place that doesn’t belong to it.
We’ve traded in a golden calve for glowing rectangle.
As dramatic as that sounds—it’s a real battle. A battle for our presence, our peace, our purpose.
But there’s good news: you can get out.
Even a small detox—a few boundaries, a few changes—can bring back calm, clarity, and connection.
💫 What Happens When You Break Free
When a woman detoxes from her phone, even just a little—it changes everything:
The tone in your home shifts.
You start feeling calmer, more present.
Your kids look at you differently.
You look at yourself differently.
I treat it like a deep cleaning for my neshama. And I do it a few times a year.
You can too—with options that are doable.
🔄 Detox Options: Light or Full
💡 Detox Light
Cut back screen time (you can use apps to track!)
Remove distracting apps
No phone during meals or the first hour of the day
Keep phones out of the bedroom
Leave it home during errands or park trips
These small shifts feel huge. You’ll breathe deeper.
✨ Full Detox
Airplane mode for large chunks of the day
Use a kosher/“dumb” phone temporarily
Put your smartphone in a drawer
Let people know you’re unplugging and do it
You’ll feel like you got your brain, your neshama, and your family back.
🎓 Want to Go Deeper?
This isn’t about being extreme. It’s about reclaiming your life.
And yes, I have a full class just on this—where I walk you through how to detox from tech, how to set boundaries that stick, and how to protect your mind and home without going off the grid.
Because:
Your brain deserves better.
Your neshama deserves better.
Your family deserves better.
You deserve better.
Let’s stop letting our phones run our days.Let’s start living life on our terms.
It’s not about perfection. It’s about intention.
Try a Detox Light. Try a Full Detox. Just try something.
Let’s look around and say:“This—this real life in front of me—is where I want to be.”
With so much love and encouragement,
🤎 Ellie
