Hey there, friends!
I want to share something my amazing mother has taught me: "Don't put it down. Put it away." đĄâ¨
This rule is non-negotiable in my house. When I'm holding something, it HAS to go exactly where it belongs.
Trust me, I know it's tempting to just dump things anywhere, but making it a habit to put items away right then and there keeps my home so much tidier.
The Science Behind It
Did you know that clutter can actually increase stress levels? Research has shown that a cluttered environment can make it harder to focus and can even elevate cortisol (stress hormone) levels. By putting things away immediately, you're not just keeping your home clean, but also creating a more peaceful and stress-free environment for yourself and your family.
Why It's Great for You
As busy moms, we juggle a million things at once. The last thing we need is extra chaos in our living spaces. Hereâs why this simple rule is a game-changer:
Saves Time: Youâll spend less time searching for misplaced items. No more frantic hunts for your keys or your kids' shoes!
Reduces Stress: A tidy home is a calming home. Less mess means less mental clutter and more peace of mind.
Sets a Good Example: When our kids see us putting things away, they learn to do the same. This helps teach responsibility and organization from a young age.
Making It a Habit for Kids
Getting kids to follow this rule might seem hard, but itâs totally doable with a little consistency and encouragement.
And donât forget to Lead by Example: Kids are natural imitators. If they see you putting things away, theyâre more likely to follow suit.
Of Course, I'm Not Perfect
Now, I have to be honest with you: Sometimes, I donât follow this rule, even though it's a non-negotiable for me. But having this habit really helps me. Just knowing it's there gives me a sense of order and a goal to strive for, even on those chaotic days when everything feels like it's going haywire.
Long-Term Benefits
Instilling this habit in your kids not only keeps your home tidy but also teaches them valuable life skills. They learn the importance of organization, responsibility, and the benefits of maintaining a clutter-free environment.
This foundation will serve them well throughout their lives, from school to their future homes and workplaces.
At first, it might feel like a bit of a chore to constantly nag and remind them.
But within a short amount of time, it will become second nature for you and your kids! And the payoff? A consistently organized and stress-free space. đ
Additional Tips
Use Labels: Clearly label bins, drawers, and shelves so everyone knows where things belong.
Declutter Regularly: Regularly go through items and get rid of things you no longer need. This makes the task of putting things away easier because thereâs less to manage.
Organize by Category: Keep similar items together. This makes it easier to find what you need and put things away in their proper place.
So, next time youâre tempted to drop something, remember this rule: Don't put it down. Put it away. Your future self will thank you!
Keep it tidy and happy organizing!
Love,
Ellie
