10 MINUTE DINNER SERIES: Quick and Easy Asian Stir-Fry/ Pad Thai:

This dish is inspired by a restaurant, in a quaint area in Jerusalem. The Chinese chef stands behind a large glass partition, and everyone there can see him putting together orders on his wok. The large flames and the delicious aromas make for a very exciting scene. My children love watching the chef in action, and I enjoy seeing how he creates so many different variations of a very basic dish, tailored to each person's preferences.

Here is our favorite version of the dish. You can use a frying pan if you don’t have a wok (like the Minimalist I am, I don’t have a wok, and it comes out just fine without one).

This recipe relies heavily on individual tastes and preferences. So, go ahead and add whatever you're in the mood for. I didn't provide precise measurements because, much like observing the Chinese chef, there really aren't any.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken cutlets or preferred meat (pepper steak or any kind), cut into long strips

  • Sweet soy sauce

  • Teriyaki sauce

  • Sesame oil (optional)

  • Brown sugar

  • Fresh garlic

  • Fresh ginger (optional)

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Olive oil for sautéing

  • Vegetables of your choice (red and yellow peppers, onions, green beans, etc.)

  • Asian sauces and really any sauces of your choice (hot sauce, duck sauce, sweet chilli, soy sauce, etc.)

  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter (optional)

  • Peanuts for topping

  • Rice noodles

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Meat:

  • Cut chicken or preferred meat into long strips.

  • Marinate in sweet soy sauce, teriyaki, sesame oil, brown sugar, fresh garlic, fresh ginger, salt, and black pepper.

  1. Prepare Vegetables:

  • In a frying pan, heat olive oil.

  • Sauté a mix of vegetables (e.g., red and yellow peppers, onions, green beans) with garlic and fresh ginger.

  1. Add Asian Flavors:

  • Add your favorite Asian sauces for flavor. Be creative with hot sauce, soy sauce, and other sauces you have on hand.

  • Optionally, add a tablespoon of peanut butter for an authentic touch.

  1. Cook Protein:

  • Add the marinated meat to the sautéed vegetables.

  • Cook until the meat is thoroughly cooked.

  1. Serve:

  • Prepare rice noodles according to the package instructions.

  • Serve the stir-fry over rice noodles. You can add the noodles to the hot pan, and toss it up to get a darker color noodle.

  • Top with chopped peanuts for a satisfying crunch.

  1. Garnish and Enjoy:

  • Garnish with additional peanuts for texture.

  • Add a touch of greenery to make the dish visually appealing.
